What is laparoscopy?

Laparoscopy is a surgical procedure used to diagnose the organs inside the abdomen. It involves a low risk , minimally invasive procedure that requires only small incisions.

Laparoscopy with the help of an instrument called laparoscope is used to look at the abdominal organs. A laparoscope contains a long tube with an attached a high resolution camera in the front and also with an intensity light .With the help of incision the instrument is inserted in the abdominal wall. As the instrument moves , the camera transmits images to a front end video monitor.

With out the surgery can able to see inside your body in real time. Doctor also can obtain the samples of biopsy during this procedure.

Therapeutic procedures can be done if you find any abnormalities during the procedure.

Why is laparoscopy performed?

Laparoscopy is frequently used to identify and diagnose the source of pelvic or abdominal pain. It’s usually performed when noninvasive methods are unable to help with diagnosis.

In many cases, abdominal problems can also be diagnosed with imaging techniques such as:

  • Ultrasound with the help of high-frequency sound waves creates the body image
  • CT scan a hi performance special X-rays that take takes sectional images of the body X-rays that take cross-sectional images of the body
  • MRI scan with the help of magnets and radio waves produce images of the body

When the above tests don’t show the required information for a patient diagnosis ,then the laparoscopy is performed. This may also also be used to take a biopsy, or tissue sample, from a particular organ in the abdomen.
