Donor Insemination

Donor Sperm (Donor Insemination)

Donor sperm, also known as Donor Insemination (DI), is an assisted reproductive technique used when a male partner has no sperm (azoospermia), very low sperm count (oligospermia), poor motility, or when there is a risk of passing on a genetic disorder.

This option can also be considered by single women or same-sex female couples who wish to conceive.

Why Is Counseling Important Before Choosing Donor Sperm? Choosing donor sperm is a significant emotional and personal decision. Counseling is highly recommended for:

Exploring feelings of grief, loss, or uncertainty due to infertility.

Addressing moral, ethical, or cultural concerns.

Discussing whether and how to share information about the donor with the child in the future.

Ensuring both partners are emotionally aligned and comfortable moving forward.

A session with a trained fertility counselor helps couples or individuals prepare psychologically, address concerns openly, and make confident, informed decisions.

How Do I Choose a Donor? You have the right to choose the sperm bank and the donor that best fits your preferences. Sperm banks typically provide detailed, non-identifying profiles of donors, which may include:

Physical traits (height, eye/hair color, complexion)

Ethnic background

Educational qualifications & career

Medical history

Personality traits or hobbies

Some banks may also offer childhood photos of the donor or allow offspring to access limited non-identifiable information when they become adults.

Donor Screening & Safety To ensure safety, all sperm donors must undergo extensive screening and testing for infections, including:

HIV, Hepatitis B & C, and Syphilis

Cytomegalovirus (CMV)

Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomonas

Other bacterial infections (e.g., Streptococcus)

Donor semen is also checked for white blood cells, which can indicate a possible infection in the reproductive tract. Only healthy, disease-free samples are approved for use in insemination procedures.

At Rajni Fertility Centre, we ensure strict medical screening, emotional support, and ethical practices throughout your donor sperm journey. Your safety, comfort, and success are our priorities.
