Donor Sperm
Donor Sperm: A Safe and Supportive Fertility Option
Donor sperm is used in fertility treatments such as Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) when the male partner is unable to provide viable sperm, or in cases of single women and same-sex couples wishing to conceive.
Sperm may be sourced from:
A known donor, or
An anonymous, screened donor through a licensed sperm bank.
How Is Donor Sperm Used? 1. Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): Thawed, specially prepared (washed) donor sperm is inserted directly into the woman’s uterus at the time of ovulation.
This can be done during a natural ovulation cycle, or
Along with fertility medications that help stimulate the ovaries and trigger egg release.
2. In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): In IVF, donor sperm is used to fertilize retrieved eggs in the lab—either by mixing the sperm with eggs or injecting it directly using ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection).
